The Kick-off Meeting for the Development of the National Standard for “Trehalose” and the Industry Standard for “Theanine in Tea” Was Successfully Held in Beijing.

On July 19, 2023, the kickoff meeting for the revision of the national standard “Quality Requirements for Starch Sugars—Part 7: Trehalose” and the development of the industry standard “Theanine in Tea,” both under the jurisdiction of the Industrial Fermentation Subtechnical Committee of the National Technical Committee for Food Standardization (TC64/SC5) and organized by the China National Research Institute of Food and Fermentation Industries Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “CNRFI”), was successfully held in Beijing.

On July 19, 2023, the kickoff meeting for the revision of the national standard “Quality Requirements for Starch Sugars—Part 7: Trehalose” and the development of the industry standard “Theanine in Tea,” both under the jurisdiction of the Industrial Fermentation Subtechnical Committee of the National Technical Committee for Food Standardization (TC64/SC5) and organized by the China National Research Institute of Food and Fermentation Industries Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “CNRFI”), was successfully held in Beijing.
Yang Xiaoming, Secretary-General of the National Technical Committee for Food Industry Standardization; Liu Huanchen, Researcher at the National Standards Technical Review Center of the State Administration for Market Regulation; and Chen Xiao, Associate Researcher in Division Two of the National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment, attended the relevant meetings. Cao Pei, Associate Researcher in Division Two of the same center, also attended the meetings and delivered remarks. Liu Ming, Deputy Director of the Standards and Digitalization R&D Department of the China National Institute of Food and Fermentation Industries, gave a welcoming address.
The kickoff meeting for the revision of the national standard “Quality Requirements for Starch Sugars—Part 7: Trehalose” was chaired by Cao Mengsi, Deputy Director of the Center of the Standards and Metrology Department. Engineer Peng Xuefei, on behalf of the standards drafting group, presented a report on the technical revisions to the standard. More than ten representatives from participating organizations, including raw material producers such as OGO Bio, Meihua Bio, Fuyang Bio, Nagase, Bao Lingbao, and Cargill, as well as application companies like Tanxin Biotech, attended the meeting. The kickoff meeting for the development of the industry standard “Theanine in Tea” was chaired by Chen Nannan, Director of the Center of the Standards and Metrology Department. Engineer Yang Litaо, on behalf of the standards drafting group, presented a report on the technical content of the standard’s development, with representatives from enterprises such as Wuxi Taiyang Lubao and Yichang Tea Group, a subsidiary of Angel Yeast, in attendance.


The participating experts and delegates engaged in in-depth discussions on various aspects of the two standards, including their titles, scopes of application, definitions of terms, product grading, standard frameworks, and content consistency. Following the meeting, the drafting working group will, based on the discussions held, actively conduct a series of investigative and analytical studies—covering such areas as the origins of raw and auxiliary materials, production processes, method validation, and comprehensive sampling surveys—in order to further refine the technical content of the standards and thereby guide and regulate the industry’s high-quality, healthy development.
